Museum looking to extend Seven Magic Mountains stay

Posted

The Nevada Museum of Art is working to keep a popular rock art installation west of the Las Vegas Strip in the state through the rest of year or longer if possible.

According to the Reno-based museum, about 1,000 people have visited the Seven Magic Mountains daily for the past two years.

The Reno Gazette-Journal reported Wednesday that the museum is working with Bureau of Land Management and agencies to keep the $3.5 million artwork featuring fluorescent boulders for a while longer.

The rock sculptures by Italian artist Ugo Rondinone are scheduled to come down in May.

Nevada Museum of Art spokeswoman Amanda Horn says they don't know if anything is possible beyond the end of year.
