The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department says five pedestrians were struck by a vehicle Saturday evening.
Police say a Honda driver plowed into a group at Lake Mead and Jones boulevards around 7 p.m. After the crash, police say the driver took off from the scene.
The crash initially started with two vehicles. While the Honda was leaving the scene, police say he hit five pedestrians -- two adults and three children. The Nissan involved in the initial crash remained at the scene and the occupants reported the crash.
Police say two children involved, a 9-year-old boy and 6-year-old girl, were critically injured, while a 7-year-old boy and two adults received minor injuries.
13 Action News spoke with a witness who called 911.
"I heard the screams and then I did hear one of the kids, not sure where, holler 'mommy' or 'mama'. From there it was just totally chaotic. I ran my dog upstairs and immediately came over," said Joseph Murphy.
About a mile and a half down the road, police were able to arrest the 50-year-old driver suspected of causing this hit-and-run crash. He was identified as Diego Morales-Aquino.
It is unclear if the driver was under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
The crash remains under investigation.
