Motorcyclist dead in northwestern Arizona crash

Posted

A motorcyclist died in a crash in northwestern Arizona over the weekend.

Mohave County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a fatal motorcycle crash on Oatman Highway around 6:20 a.m. Saturday. A passerby had reported seeing a motorcycle in the dirt and a person not moving.

Upon arrival, deputies found a deceased man, later identified as Daniel Robert Smith, 50, of Lake Havasu City.

Investigations determined the motorcycle went off the roadway into the dirt shoulder after it failed to negotiate a turn traveling southbound. The motorcycle then hit the dirt embankment where Smith was thrown from the motorcycle. Smith was wearing a half-helmet which sustained damage to it.

Further investigation as to the time of death and causes are still pending. It appeared Smith may have crashed Friday evening and due to the area, no one reported seeing the crash or the motorcycle until the next morning. Speed does not appear to be a factor.
