LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — This week’s wind led to more than 80 rescues at Lake Mead National Recreation Area, according to park rangers.

During the gusty Mother’s Day weekend, officers at Lake Mead say they saved a 3-year-old girl who was trapped under a capsized boat. She was with a party of 12, all of whom were brought to shore safely. The young girl was wearing a life jacket.

Rangers say 2 boats capsized in strong waves and stormy conditions over the weekend.

“Even a 10 mile per hour wind can create a one-foot wave. As these winds this week are really elevated, we could see four-foot waves over the next couple of days,” said Christie Vanover, public affairs ffficer at Lake Mead National Recreation Area.
