31-YEAR-OLD ARRESTED FOR DUI IN CRASH THAT INJURED TEEN
13 Action News spoke with Crystal Sanders, the victim's mother, and she says her son Marsallis hasn't been able to talk, move, or eat since the incident. She's not sure if he will ever be the same quirky and energetic boy after this tragedy.
"They told me that he was going to have a brain surgery because of bad trauma into the head."
Fighting back tears, Crystal Sanders talked about how she did all she could to protect her 16-year-old son.
"I just get angry because I feel like people need to be more responsible."
Crystal is a single mom and because of the injuries she suffered in the crash, she hasn't been able to get back to work as a hotel housekeeper. She also has to be at the hospital every day for Marsallis.
"Every day I dread going to the hospital cause I hate seeing him like that," she said. "He's been trying to fight so hard and I've been talking to him."
With no money coming in and mounting medical bills for both her and her son, Crystal is trying to stay strong. She has this message to the community.
"Just be more careful when you drink. Just don't get in your car it's not even worth it. You can ruin someones' life."
Despite her current situation Sanders is trying to remain positive.
"I'm just hoping that he just keeps fighting and he walks again and talks again."
The family has created a GoFundMe page to help with Crystal's expenses and medical bills.
