MGM Resorts is planning to implement a 20 percent service charge at all of their spas and salons inside their properties.

The service charge will replace tips.

5 properties already have a service charge and others will join by the end of August.

MGM says the initiative is designed to standardize policies and allow guests to focus more on the experience.

The following statement was sent to 13 Action News:

Our employees go above and beyond to provide the best possible service, and it’s important that they receive recognition for a job well done. This policy ensures spa and salon employees are rewarded consistently across our resorts for their hard work and allows guests to focus exclusively on enjoying their spa experience.

It is unknown how customers have been reacting to the new charge. However, many people have expressed their displeasure over the last couple of years about rising resort fees, paid parking and decrease in comped drinks etc.
