The criminal case of a 35-year-old man accused in Las Vegas of pointing a handgun at police before he was wounded in a stolen car chase is heading toward trial in state court.
Gilberto Gutierrez was indicted Friday and his bail was increased to $500,000 pending his arraignment Feb. 23 in Clark County District Court.
A preliminary hearing that had been scheduled Tuesday was canceled.
Gutierrez was arrested on felony auto theft, assault and weapon charges and a misdemeanor possession of burglary tools count after he was shot Jan. 26 in a neighborhood east of downtown Las Vegas.
Police say Officer Samuel Solorio shot Gutierrez as Gutierrez pointed a handgun and ran from a police motorcycle officer, David Corbin.
Police say Gutierrez had a loaded handgun, but he didn't shoot.
