A 23-year-old man has been sentenced to 12 to 30 years in Nevada state prison for driving drunk and causing a high-speed crash that killed two teenagers in a car on a busy Las Vegas road 13 months ago.

Seong Mo Lee apologized before sentencing Monday by Clark County District Court Judge Elissa Cadish.

"First and foremost, I would like to apologize to the victims' families," said Lee.  "And most importantly, to the victim's who can no longer be here with us today."

Several family members spoke of the pain left by the March 2015 deaths of 17-year-old Kamesha Gilmore and 18-year-old Gabriell Thomas.

"Losing Gabriell basically destroyed me," said Gabriell Thomas' grandmother, Emma Woods.

"For me to walk around for 12 hours [at the accident], and see one of her legs hanging out of that mangled mess, you can't imagine the pain," says Kamesha Gilmore's father, Joe Johnson.

Police said Lee's blood-alcohol level was twice the legal limit when the Mercedes he was driving ran a red light and slammed at 117 mph into the girls' Nissan Versa on Boulder Highway.

Lee was awaiting trial at the time on a misdemeanor drunk driving charge stemming from a July 2014 arrest.
