A 57-year-old man was found next to a scooter in a driveway on the east side of the valley Monday evening.
Police responded to the incident around 6:45 p.m. near the intersection of Astoria and Spokane drives, near Mojave Road and Vegas Valley Drive. Police said the man was transported to Sunrise Trauma where he later died.
Detectives determined the man was approaching a stop sign, braked and then crashed the scooter. The scooter and rider came to a rest in the driveway of a house in the 2900 block of Spokane Drive.
Police are working to determine whether it was a medical episode or if another vehicle was involved. The man was not wearing a helmet and had a head injury. His official cause of death will be released by the coroner.
No one nearby heard the crash but a neighbor later noticed the unresponsive man and called 911.
Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Fatal Detail responded to the scene. The crash remains under investigation.
