Major crash involving 9 vehicles closes I-15 southbound near Primm

PRIMM (KTNV) — A crash involving 9 vehicles resulted in the southbound lanes of Interstate 15 being closed many hours on Saturday.

Nevada Highway Patrol says that California Highway Patrol had closed the highway temporarily for an unrelated incident, causing traffic to back up.

A semi truck, for unknown reasons, failed to yield or brake and slammed into another semi truck and 7 passenger vehicles. The crash was reported around 8:10 a.m. Jan. 5.

One person was airlifted to University Medical Center in critical condition and another was taken by ground transport to a local hospital That person’s condition is currently unknown.

Southbound I-15 is still closed at Sloan because several gallons of diesel fuel spilled onto the road. It is not known at this time when the lanes will reopen.

The crash also resulted in the closure of Las Vegas Boulevard near Sloan.

Drivers have two options to get around the crash. They can take State Route 160 to State Route 372 to State Route 127. That route will take a little over 2 hours. Or, they can take U.S. Highway 95 to Interstate That route will take almost 3 hours.
