LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — A pedestrian is in critical condition after a collision in the east Las Vegas valley on Thursday evening, police say.
According to initial reports, the collision occurred at approximately 8:38 p.m. on North Nellis Boulevard at the intersection of East Bonanza Road.
Evidence at the scene and witness statements indicated that a 2004 Chevrolet Avalanche was traveling south on Nellis, approaching a green traffic signal at Bonanza, while a pedestrian was crossing Nellis outside a marked crosswalk.
Police say the collision occurred when the pedestrian traveled into the path of the approaching vehicle and was struck.
Arriving medical personnel transported the pedestrian to the University Medical Center's Trauma Unit in critical condition. Despite all life-saving measures, the pedestrian succumbed to his injuries shortly after his arrival and was pronounced deceased by trauma staff.
Police say the Chevrolet driver remained on the scene and displayed no signs of impairment.
The death marked the 34th traffic-related fatality in the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department's Jurisdiction for 2023. The collision remains under investigation by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department's Collision Investigation Section.
