LAS VEGAS (AP) — Cy Ryan, a respected reporter and Nevada Newspaper Hall of Fame inductee who covered the state Legislature for United Press International and the Las Vegas Sun for more than half a century, has died. He was 88.
Nevada Appeal reporter and close friend Geoff Dornan says Ryan had been in declining health and died Thursday.
A Las Vegas Sun obituary noted that Ryan was so admired by colleagues that it was his fiercest rival, Ed Vogel of the Las Vegas Review-Journal, who nominated him in 1999 for the Nevada Press Association hall of fame.
Vogel compared Ryan with another famous Nevada newspaperman, Mark Twain.
