LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — Onofrio Zicari was part of the 5th Amphibious Brigade on D-Day.
This year marks 75 years since the beaches of Normandy were stormed and to commemorate the day, surviving veterans returned to France. One of those was Zicari, a Las Vegas local.
Standing on a now quiet beach, he described what he remembers.
"This whole sector as far as the eye could see was just men coming to shore coming to shore unbelievable," said Zicari.
He also visited the grave of one of the men in his outfit. The one cross is surrounded by thousands of others.
"A lot of graves, look at all the crosses, oh boy," he said as he walked through the somber area.
