LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — A Las Vegas SWAT commander charged with elder abuse has been found not guilty by a jury.
Lieutenant James Thomas Melton was indicted in February for exploitation, theft and filing false documents.
Melton says he was a genuine friend of the elderly couple and he was following instructions from professional guardian April Parks.
Parks, the subject of a years-long Contact 13 Investigation into guardianship corruption, was found guilty of exploitation and theft in a separate case.
She is currently serving at least 16 years in prison.
