Thousands of guns stolen in home burglaries

Posted
Nearly 1,700 guns have been reported stolen in Las Vegas this year.

Las Vegas police say that's on pace to break last year's number.

Since 2012, 7,400 guns have been stolen. The majority are coming from home burglaries.

The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department says some are then used in crimes but many aren't, leaving them to wonder what happens to stolen firearms.

Officials say burglars can easily find guns out in the open and too many gun owners are leaving their firearms vulnerable.

LVMPD says it has an internal program in the works to track stolen guns that are used in violent crimes.
