A 24-year-old Las Vegas police officer made an initial court appearance on felony child pornography charges that could put him in prison for up to 45 years and cost him his job.

Ruben Delgadillo said nothing as he stood in shackles in court Wednesday for the brief hearing.

He remains jailed pending a preliminary hearing Aug. 31 on five charges of unlawful visual presentation depicting sexual conduct of a person under 16, and one count of distribution of pornography involving a minor.

Delgadillo's defense attorney, Joshua Tomsheck, declined outside court to comment.

Police say Delgadillo was identified through an internet address as a user of peer-to-peer software used to exchange files depicting sex involving young children.

Police say Delgadillo has been suspended. He's been an officer since July 2015.

His preliminary is scheduled for August 31. Bail has been set for $100,000.
