54-year-old man attempting to jump start car was shot, Las Vegas police say

LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department is investigating a homicide in the 1100 block of West Hassell Avenue Saturday night.

Around 3:24 p.m., police responded to a shooting near a residence located in the 1100 block of Hassell Avenue. Police say two people working on a car saw a 54-year-old man get shot multiple times.

When officers arrived, they located an unresponsive male suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. When medical personnel transported the victim to UMC trauma, the victim was pronounced deceased.

Investigation by the LVMPD homicide section indicates that the victim was on the street attempting to jump start a vehicle. An unknown male suspect approached and began to shoot at the victim, the suspect fled prior to officers arriving at the scene.

The investigating is ongoing.

A preliminary investigation has revealed the suspect to be a Black man wearing a dark hoodie and jacket. The suspect was last seen in a black car.

The identification of the victim, as well as the cause and manner of death, will be released by the Clark County Coroner’s Office.
