LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department is investigating a homicide near downtown Wednesday night.

Police are on scene at the 1100 block of Comstock Drive. This is near the intersection of MLK Boulevard and W. Washington Avenue.

Lt. Jason Johansson provided an update later Wednesday night after his first report of the homicide.

He said around 6:40 p.m., officers were dispatched to a residence at Washington and Tonopah, reportedly with the suspect still on scene.

When officers arrived, they located a man around his 40's laying on the ground who appeared to be shot. There was another man next to him, "indicating that he shot him" according to police.

Police were able to take the suspect into custody, including a firearm. No one is outstanding in the case and homicide has responded.

Police are still gathering evidence. However, preliminary details gathered by police indicate the the two men were doing some type of transaction. Police did not know whether or not money was confirmed to be sent by either party.

The altercation turned physical, and the suspect appears to have shot the victim, police said.

Furthermore, police also did confirm that everyone did appear to know one another.
