LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department is investigating a homicide in downtown area.
Police are on scene near 3rd Street and Coolidge Avenue, specifically in the 100 block south of 3rd Street.
Lt. Jason Johansson said the downtown area command got a call from a man regarding his girlfriend, saying that he "accidentally shot her."
When police arrived at the 3-story apartment complex around 5:38 p.m., a man came out and police were able to take him into custody without further incident.
Police then found a woman in her 20s with a gunshot wound when they entered the property. Medical pronounced the woman deceased on scene.
Preliminary information by police indicates that the man and woman are in a dating relationship. The two got into a verbal altercation that ultimately turned physical.
"At some point a gun was introduced," Johansson said. "It was fired and shot the female."
Police are continuing to conduct their investigation.
