LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — A young mother was found stabbed to death in her family home in west Las Vegas on Tuesday night, and detectives are searching for her killer.
UPDATE: Police: Man fled to San Diego after young mother's murder in west Las Vegas
The victim's family members called police just before 7 p.m. to report their daughter had been killed.
Officers arriving at the residence near J Street and McWilliams Avenue found a woman in her 20s who appeared to have been stabbed to death, said Lt. Jason Johansson with LVMPD's homicide section.
The officers began to render aid, "however they believed that the victim was already deceased," Johansson said. Medical first responders soon arrived and confirmed that she was dead. Homicide detectives were called to take over the investigation.
The victim lived at the residence with her parents and an infant daughter, Johansson said. The family left the residence and returned to find her dead.
"Thankfully, the child was found in good condition and is currently in the hands of their family," he said.
Detectives initially had "very little" information and were canvassing the area to look for additional witnesses or video that could aid the investigation. The family members who called 911 were said to be fully cooperating with the investigation.
As of Tuesday night, detectives hadn't identified a suspect but were in the process of doing so, Johansson said.
He encouraged anyone with information about the woman's death to contact the homicide section at 702-828-3521. Anonymous tips can be made through Crime Stoppers at 702-385-5555 and there is reward money available, he said.
