The Nevada Department of Corrections is investigating an apparent suicide Tuesday afternoon in Lovelock.
Around noon, correctional officers found inmate Oscar Valasquez-Yanez, 41, hanging from a bed sheet tied to the upper bunk in his cell in the Lovelock Correctional Center.
Responding staff immediately began life saving measures which were unsuccessful. Valasquez-Yanez was pronounced dead at by medical staff at the scene.
Valasquez-Yanez was committed from Clark County in November 2008 and serving 8 to 20 years for attempted sexual assault with victim under 16 years of age.
The Pershing County Sheriff’s Office Coroner responded and an autopsy is being scheduled.
