The Nevada Department of Corrections (NDOC) is investigating an apparent suicide that occurred the morning of March 23, 2016.
At approximately 11:45 a.m., correctional officers found Inmate James Scholl, hanging from a bed sheet tied to the upper bunk in his cell in High Desert State Prison located approximately 30 miles north of Las Vegas.
Responding staff immediately began life saving measures which were unsuccessful. Scholl was pronounced dead by medical staff at the scene.
The 45-year-old male was committed from Clark County on May 6, 2006, and was serving Life without the Possibility of Parole for 1st Degree Murder and consecutive sentences for Use of a Deadly Weapon Enhancement, Kidnapping and Robbery.
The Clark County Coroner responded and an autopsy is being scheduled. Next of kin have been notified.
