With the Super Bowl right around the corner, sports books are releasing proposition bets related to the big game.
At the Westgate Las Vegas Superbook, more than 400 props are available to bettors.
Virtually every statistic for every player can be bet on in addition to usual favorites like the coin toss and whether the game will go to overtime.
Jay Kornegay, the Superbook's vice president of race and sports operations, says he and his staff work on setting up the board for weeks, even before they know which teams will be playing.
He says about 60 percent of all the money bet on the Super Bowl is on props.
"The propositions back in the day used to be a sucker bet in many eyes," Kornegay said. "A lot of people would stay away from them but over the years the betting public really got comfortable with them. Part of that is because they won a lot."
Kornegay says last year the book set a record, taking $138 million in bets on the Super Bowl. He expects to clear that number comfortably this year.
