NELLIS AIR FORCE BASE (KTNV) — The Thunderbirds are the Air Force's official demonstration team, which means they perform at air shows across the country and around the world.

They call Nellis Air Force Base home and will perform this weekend at Aviation Nation.

The Thunderbirds got its start in 1953, just 6 years after the Air Force was established as a military branch. It started with 30 members and now has 130 members. 12 of those members are officers and 8 of them are pilots.

The Thunderbirds began performing in 1963 and its mission stays the same -- to recruit, retain, inspire and entertain.
