ELKO, Nev. (AP) — The Nevada Highway Patrol says a trooper fatally shot a man who fired at the trooper during a foot chase in Elko after a traffic stop for suspected drunken driving.
The Highway Patrol said in a statement that the trooper shot the man Friday night after the man ran off before field sobriety testing began and that the man fired “multiple rounds at the trooper,” The statement said a handgun was recovered at the scene.
No identities were released.
The trooper was placed on routine administrative leave pending completion of an investigation being conducted by the Elko Police Department and a Washoe County sheriff’s forensics team.
