The Henderson Police Department is alerting the public about a scam where suspects pose as NV Energy employees in an attempt to collect payments.
Suspects call the victim claiming to be from NV Energy and demand that outstanding balances be paid to prevent their power from being turned off.
The suspects are able to falsely represent their phone number to display as NV Energy on a caller ID system. Victims are also given a callback number that uses voice prompts that mimic a legitimate NV Energy phone system which makes this scam even more believable to unsuspecting victims.
The suspect callers are both male and female and call both businesses and residences. They typically demand payment through the use of a Green Dot or MoneyPak prepaid card.
NV Energy does not call customers to demand immediate payment for any reason. Customers who may be at risk of having their power disconnected because of nonpayment will receive a 10-day and 48-hour notice via U.S. Mail.
If customers receive a call demanding payment, refuse it and notify the Henderson Police Department. You can also contact NV Energy at 702-402-5555 to verify.
