HENDERSON (KTNV) — A 33-year-old woman is hospitalized after she was shot by Henderson Police officers on Friday afternoon.

Police say the woman was wielding a knife and pointed it at officers before she was shot.

Officers were called to the 1000 block of Center Street at 4:30 p.m. in reference to a domestic disturbance, said Sgt. Daniel Medrano with the Henderson Police Department.

Police were told a "female suspect was threatening another female with a knife," Medrano said. The suspect was reportedly shouting, "I will kill you!" and "Kill me!"

Police would later identify the female suspect as 33-year-old Shena Reiber.

When officers arrived, Medrano says the woman pointed the knife toward officers, who "then attempted to de-escalate the situation."

"The suspect refused to follow officers' verbal commands to drop the knife, resulting in an officer-involved shooting," Medrano said.

The officers are said to have provided medical aid to the woman until paramedics arrived. Medrano said she was taken to an area hospital, where he said she was in "stable" condition.

Reiber was booked into the Henderson Detention Center in absentia for charges including two counts of attempted murder with a deadly weapon, and two counts of assault on a protected person.

No officers were injured. Sunday, police identified the officers involved as Sgt. Anthony Sanchez-Martinez and Officer Sarena Ulibarri.

Officer Ulibarri has been with the Henderson Police Department since July 2021 and is assigned to the Field Operations Bureau. Sanchez Martinez has been employed with the department since 2015 and is assigned to Field Operations Bureau as well.

Both have been placed on paid administrative leave.

This is the second officer-involved shooting in the Henderson Police Department's jurisdiction this year, Medrano noted.
