From the construction of the Raiders' new practice facility to new housing developments, a lot is going on in Henderson and that includes earning a spot as one of Money Magazine's Best Cities To Live In.
Derek Hornaday just recently opened Hades Grill in downtown Henderson hoping its location proves to be the hot spot its name brings to mind.
"I like the excitement behind the growth, but it still has a hometown small town feeling," said Hornaday.
Those are just a few of the qualities that helped Henderson land at No. 40 on a list of the "The Top 50 Best Places To Live In America." Money magazine partnered with Realtor.Com and looked at quality of life, affordability and economic growth.
Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Scott Muelrath said a lot of a businesses are relocating to southern Nevada and huge construction projects like the Raiders practice facility in west Henderson are fueling growth.
"It's very encouraging all the signs we see across this city that things are all pointing in a positive direction," said Muelrath. "When there's construction booming that's also a job attraction, so you are pulling people from really all over the country. It creates a ripple effect for the small business community and in turn the community at large."
While Hornaday has lived in southern Nevada for awhile, working also as a firefighter, he did his research when he and his girlfriend decided to become small business owners. He said longtime residents have been waiting for this boom.
"They say they can't wait because a lot of "what if" projects stayed in that category," he said."Now we have a lot of 'it's coming soon'. It's not an if."
