Firefighters got a surprise when they rescued a dog from a burning building near Sahara Avenue and Las Vegas Boulevard on Monday night.

The building was supposedly empty when firefighters brought the dog to safety. But while they were calling animal control, they discovered a woman hiding underneath the floor boards. She claimed the dog was hers.

13 Action News was able to reach the woman as she was leaving the building. She was able to walk and appeared to be okay.

A woman I spoke with says she was caught in a burning building with her dog. Both are okay. The dog's name is Bishop and he's three.
