A fire was reported near Las Vegas Boulevard and Serene Avenue Tuesday evening.

Fire crews received the call around 10:15 p.m. The Clark County Fire Department responded in the 9400 block of South Las Vegas Boulevard. They had the fire out by 11:50 p.m.

Eight apartments were destroyed, and 19 people were displaced.

One of those displaced is Samantha Hoyer, who is 8 months pregnant. She says the fire started in her unit while she was cooking.

"I was scared out of my mind," said Hoyer.

Officials say the building possibly had significant amounts of asbestos.

This wasn't the first fire at the complex. In fact, there have been several the past few years. The former HOA treasurer Aaron Yashoafar was indicted back in 2011 for taking money meant to repair units destroyed by flames.

The American Red Cross is assisting those in need of food, shelter, and clothing.
