Fallen officers to be honored Thursday

The public is invited to a ceremony Thursday to remember the fallen police officers in Southern Nevada.

The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department is holding its annual Southern Nevada Law Enforcement Memorial, where they will pay tribute to the 34 officers killed in the line of duty from 1905 to present.

The following agencies are represented at the memorial: the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency, Federal Bureau of Investigation, Henderson Police Department, North Las Vegas Police Department, Nevada Department of Corrections, Union Pacific Railroad, United States Marshal Service and the Nye County Sheriff’s Office.

Sheriff Joe Lombardo, among others, will speak at the event at 7 p.m. Thursday at Police Memorial Park, 3250 Metro Academy Way.

It will end with a balloon release.
