Las Vegas Fire & Rescue Senior Fire Investigator Anthony Curtis Stephens, 58, of Las Vegas passed away on Nov. 29 after a bout with cancer. A funeral was held for him Thursday.
He was a member of Las Vegas Fire & Rescue for 25 years where he served as a firefighter, paramedic and fire investigator before he retired.
In 2005, he was promoted to senior fire investigator of the Las Vegas Fire & Rescue Arson & Bomb Squad.
He is the fifth firefighter that has fallen due to cancer over the past ten years.
In the state of Nevada, firefighters that fall because of cancer is considered a line of duty death.
Cancer is one of the leading causes of death for firefighters nationwide.
