LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — A prominent name in the Las Vegas valley is warning others to get regular check ups after a skin cancer scare.
If you've lived in Las Vegas for any amount of time, you have probably heard the phrase "Enough said, call Ed." Ed Bernstein is a well-known personal injury lawyer and now he's getting personal about his recent diagnosis.
"One day I saw a little pimple-sized mole on my leg, didn't think anything of it. Being a guy, we kind of disregard those things, but my wife Claudia looked at it and she said you need to get this checked out!" Bernstein said.
Bernstein says he was about to leave for vacation and the last thing on his to-do list was a doctor's visit. But his wife insisted. A week after his check up, he got the call confirming he had Cutaneous Squamous Cell Carcinoma, a common form of skin cancer.
Bernstein is now in recovery after a painful surgery.
"These things have roots and go in deep," Bernstein said. "It was quite painful but they need to make sure they get out all the possible cancer cells."
The Skin Cancer Foundation says CSCC is one of the most common types of forms of skin cancer about 115 cases are diagnosed every hour.
If caught early, it's treatable. When the cancer becomes advanced, it can become dangerous or life threatening.
