LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — “Senseless” and an “act of stupidity." That’s what the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department is calling a bizarre double homicide involving a bicyclist and a minivan passenger.

Police say that the passenger intentionally stuck his body out of a car window striking a woman on a bike, causing both of them to die.

The driver of the minivan has now been arrested.

“People need to be more careful. I mean, I don’t even know.”

Jacqueline Semore is at a loss for words after hearing about the bizarre crime Sunday morning.

Markings at the scene are still visible north of Sahara Avenue and Hollywood Boulevard showing where two people died.

LVMPD says a woman in her mid-50s was riding her bike when a minivan passenger hanging out of the minivan’s window pushed her with his hand.

The driver of that van, 22-year-old Rodrigo Cruz, is now behind bars.

“Why would someone want to do that? That’s mean. That’s kind of mean,” Semore said.

Other neighbors had less forgiving words for the passenger. Police say he died after falling out of the car skidding down the road and hitting his head on a light post.

“100% karma. They deserved it,” Socrate Farea, a neighbor, said.

New police documents reveal Cruz told investigators he was driving 50- to 60-miles an hour when the passenger pushed the woman on the bike saying he “always did stupid stuff."

Cruz claims he didn’t intentionally try to drive towards the sidewalk and was trying to grab the passenger from falling out of the minivan.

Cruz is facing charges of open murder and hit-and-run resulting in death.

The identities of the passenger and woman have not yet been released by the coroner’s office.
