LAS VEGAS (KTNV) -- Several cases of stomach illnesses at a west Las Vegas elementary school has forced the health district to close the school on Friday.

In a letter to parents sent on Thursday, the Southern Nevada Health District said it is investigating many cases of gastrointestinal illnesses reported at Doral Academy Red Rock Elementary School.

The health district continued to say they were shutting down the elementary school on Friday to prevent any further illness.

Thursday evening, 13 Action News spotted crews working to deep clean and disinfect the school.

Officials also urged parents to have their students stay home if they were showing any symptoms of the illness.

The SNHD did not immediately release the school’s schedule for next week but said the office of epidemiology and Disease surveillance can be contacted at 702-759-1300 for more information.
