A dog died in a house fire that started on a mattress Sunday morning.
Las Vegas Fire & Rescue responded to the fire around 8:15 a.m. in the 4200 block of Garden Place, near Alta Drive and Valley View Boulevard.
On arrival, smoke was showing from the front door of the one-story home. The occupants told firefighter everyone was out of the house except for a small dog.
Firefighters entered the home and found a mattress on fire. They had the fire out in less than three minutes. While putting the fire out, other firefighters searched the house for any victims. The small dog was found in the house but already died because of smoke.
Two adults and three children were displaced in the fire. There were no injuries reported among the occupants nor firefighters.
The cause of the fire is unknown at this time. The fire burned the mattress and a small dresser.
Las Vegas Fire & Rescue estimated the damage at $3,000.
