Discarded fireworks in trash can may have started fire

Posted

It was a busy night for firefighters. There were hundreds of fires across the Las Vegas valley and many of those were because of fireworks.

One of those fires forced a family out of their home.

The fire, which was reported around 12:30 a.m., happened at a house located in the 4500 block of Burgoa Court near West Cacatus Avenue and Southern Highland Parkway.

Firefighters say that the fire started in a trash can near the house. Two adults and 4 children were in the house at the time of the fire. Fortunately, they were all able to get out safely.

The exact cause of the fire is still under investigation but firefighters believe it could have been caused by discarded fireworks.

It was these types of fires that kept fire crews around the valley busy throughout the night.

Las Vegas Fire & Rescue normally handle about 300 calls per day. Before the holiday, they told 13 Action News that they expected that number to double.
