A mom is speaking out a year after her 21-year-old daughter was murdered, hoping for a break in the case.
Sydney Land and Nehemiah Kauffman were shot at their apartment near Hualapai and Peace ways in October of 2016.
At a news conference Wednesday, Las Vegas detectives said they've hit a roadblock. They're asking the public for new leads.
"It's really crazy when people say, you just need to move on," said Sydney's mom, Connie Land, "...they've messed with the wrong mother."
Originally police named Shane Valentine as a person of interest in the case. That is no longer the case, according to Lt. Dan McGrath.
McGrath said it's believed that Kauffman may have been the target of the attack.
"I've never thought that she was involved in any way," said Land.
Police also said the killer or killers were likely let inside the apartment. There was no signs of forced entry.
Land says the community is not safe until there's an arrest in this case. Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at (702) 385-5555.
