Desert Pines High School student arrested for having gun on campus

LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — A 16-year-old Desert Pines High School student was arrested on Tuesday for having a gun on campus, according to school police.

Clark County School District Police Department responded to reports that a student in a portable classroom possibly had a gun hidden in his waistband or in his backpack.

School police did a pat down of the student for weapons but say no weapons were found.

All the students were then removed from the classroom and a CCSDPD K-9 was run through the classroom. The K-9 alerted officers to a backpack that was on the floor of the classroom. Officers say a pistol was found inside the backpack.

The backpack belonged to the 10th grader accused of having the gun.

The student was then placed under arrest by CCSDPD officers.

The firearm was turned over to the joint LVMPD/ATF Task Force and taken to the Crime Gun Intelligence Center for forensic testing. Officers say the gun was reported stolen.

The student was placed under arrest and transported to CC Juvenile Detention and booked for Grand Larceny, carrying a concealed weapon, minor in possession of a firearm, possession of a dangerous weapon on school property.
