LATEST UPDATE: The pedestrian who was hit near Desert Inn Road and Aztec has died. The Clark County coroner has identified him as 27-year-old Josbany Carlos Borrego. His city of residence is unknown. Borrego died from blunt force trauma to the head as a result of being hit by a vehicle.
UPDATE: Police says the pedestrian who they originally believed died is in grave condition at Sunrise Hospital and is not expected to survive.
Officers say the man was walking on the sidewalk talking on his phone when he looked back at a previous fender bender in the fast lane.
At that point they say he accidentally stepped off the curb into the path of a car that was in the slow lane going around the previous accident.
The pedestrian suffered major head injuries.
Police say the driver remained on scene and did not appear to be intoxicated.
Desert Inn was closed in the area for about three hours while officers investigated.
