Washoe County's district attorney says a Reno police officer was justified when he shot a suspect who was repeatedly stabbing another man and assaulted a fellow officer during a fight last year at a downtown motor lodge.
District Attorney Chris Hicks released the findings Tuesday of a comprehensive review of the officer-involved shooting that cleared the officers of any wrongdoing.
The suspect, 35-year-old Ronald Bailey III, was shot three times in the back after he refused commands to drop a knife and deployment of a Taser failed to stop him from assaulting another officer in the motel parking lot on Feb. 6, 2017.
Bailey, who survived his injuries, later was sentenced to 15 years in prison after pleading guilty to resisting arrest with a dangerous weapon and battery with a deadly weapon resulting in substantial bodily harm.
