UPDATE NOV. 25: The Clark County Coroner has identified the victim of the fatal shooting as 19-year-old Patrick Neufeld. His death was due to a penetrating gunshot wound to the head and his death was ruled a homicide.

ORIGINAL STORY
Detectives in Las Vegas are investigating a deadly shooting on Villa Knolls Drive, near Tropicana Avenue between Pecos and Sandhill roads.

Police say a man and woman were walking into an apartment around 4:15 a.m. on Monday when a second man, around 19 years old, approached them.

The two went inside and locked the door, and police say the 19-year-old outside shot a gun into the building through the door. That's when the man inside returned fire.

The 19-year-old was hit and died. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police believe the 19-year-old and the woman were coworkers at some point. The department says she had just got home from work and asked a friend ride.

The friend walked her to the front door because she told him she was concerned about the former coworker, police say.

The investigation remains ongoing.
