UPDATE DEC. 16: Police have arrested 40-year-old Octavia Carter in connection to a deadly stabbing on Saturday.
Police say Carter and a man were fighting on Dec. 14 while three children -- between eight and 11 years old -- were inside the apartment at a Budget Suites near Tropicana Avenue and Decatur Boulevard.
At some point during the argument, police say Carter stabbed the man. The children were unharmed.

According to the arrest report, the children alerted management at the property that their father was injured, bleeding from the legs, and that they did not know what happened. Staff then called 911, the report says.
The dispatcher was transferred to a room on the property and said that the woman who answered the call was very nonchalant, the report says.
The arrest report goes on to say:
...when asked [by the dispatcher] if the male was breathing [the woman] stated 'Probably, I don't know.' The female then set the phone down, came back a few seconds later and was out of breathe. The dispatcher attempted to give the female CPR instructions but the female just said she did not know what was going on. [Two of the children] briefly got on the phone and then disconnected the line.
When police arrived on the scene they found Carter covered in blood with a towel wrapped around her hand, the report says. She was transported to UMC Trauma. The man was pronounced dead.
While at UMC Trauma, the report says an officer overheard her say "I am a coward, I should have killed myself too." while Carter was being attended to by nurses. The officer goes on to say he witnessed her in a trance like state rocking back and forth, periodically breaking out to ask about the welfare of her children.

After she was treated and released from the hospital, Carter was transported to police headquarters to be interviewed and read her Miranda Rights, the report says. Police described her as seeming "confused" and that she would "stare blankly."
The interview was stopped after she began to cry, saying she couldn't talk, the report says.
Carter was taken into custody without incident and transported to Clark County Detention Center where she was booked for one count of open murder.
She is being held without bail and expected to appear in court on Dec. 17.
The identification of the deceased as well as the cause and manner of death will be released by the Clark County Coroner’s Office.
