Shoe store employee shot in abdomen

Posted

An employee of a store near Paradise Road and Harmon Avenue was shot in the abdomen Sunday evening.

The victim was transported to Sunrise Hospital with non-life threatening injuries after the shooting in the 4400 block of Paradise Road. Police said the victim needed surgery and was in critical condition on Sunday.

The business was not specified, but witnesses say it happened at a shoe store in the strip mall.

The suspect is still outstanding.

People close to the victim tell Action News the same shoe store was robbed at knifepoint just a few weeks ago. Two men came in and made it out with a pair of shoes, but one was arrested. Police confirm they are working a case that matches this description.

Several people who live and work nearby say this shooting is payback for the botched robbery.

"Dude came back and shot a man over some shoes. It's kind of ridiculous to be honest, man," said Tyler Kellum, a man who heard the gunshots and is friends with the victim.

As of noon on Monday, the shoe store was not open for business.
