LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — A man has been arrested for a fatal shooting that took place around 5:30 p.m. Jan. 17 in the 5100 block of Del Monte Avenue near Decatur and Oakey boulevards.

The incident began when two men who were passing by became involved in an argument with several people. The argument escalated and multiple people pulled out guns and began shooting at each other.

No one was shot at that time but multiple vehicles and homes were struck.

Police say that the man who was shot returned shortly after and 28-year-old Gilberto Barrientos exited a home and shot the man.

Police officers found the man who had been shot in the street upon arrival. He was transported to UMC Trauma where he was pronounced deceased.

Barrientos was arrested and transported to Clark County Detention Center where he was charged with one count of open murder.

Police say it's important not to pull out your phone and start recording, in a dangerous situation like this.

"It is not important to get this thing on tape especially if you're in the area it's happening. Allow those fixed security cameras to capture it. Your responsibly is to get yourself, family, loved ones out of the area without an injury," officer Larry Hatfield said.

You can also setup a neighborhood watch, to try and prevent crime in your area.

"You can go to your local area command to get that started with one of the crime prevention analysts over there. Also, there are other social media apps that you can get on, where neighbors can start sharing information of things they see and of course there's that going out and meeting your neighbors thing, which is the best," officer Hatfield said.
