Coroner identifies man found dead in vacant home

Posted

UPDATE: Police found a man dead inside a vacant home near Flamingo Road and Arville Street Saturday afternoon. It marks their 115th homicide of the year.

Police say the shooting happened a few days ago, but his body wasn't recovered by police until Saturday afternoon. The man was identified as 35-year-old Alexander George Munez. He died of a gunshot wound to the abdomen.

Neighbors say the home has been troubled for months.

Jocelyn Alferez-Flores lives two doors down from the abandoned home. Even though police say the bank owns it, she sees four to five people living there on any given day.

"We didn't know exactly what was going on. We just would hear a lot of screaming. And there was always this girl. She was always screaming someone help me someone help me and that's when we would call the cops," said Alferez-Flores.

The things happening at 4442 Via San Rafael were so disturbing to Alferez-Florez that she planned to start a petition to get them removed.

"They were constantly here harassing the neighborhood. Especially there's a lot of kids in this neighborhood. It's a Latino community. So it was very dangerous," she said.

Alferez-Flores admits she feared for her life at some points.

"There was a white gentleman that used to get beat up all the time. He used to have blood on his face all the time."

So she says it was no surprise to see police surrounding the house due to a homicide Saturday afternoon.

"I wasn't sure if it was a drug issue going on, or if it was homeless people or if it was squatters or all of them but it was always very warning to us."

Police say the man found inside died from a single gunshot wound.

"I'm glad that they're gone honestly. It's unfortunate the way it worked out," said Alferez-Flores.

The victim still hasn't been identified. Police still don't have a suspect in custody.

ORIGINAL STORY

Police found a man dead inside a home Saturday afternoon.

Around 1:43 p.m. Saturday, police received information that a man may have been shot two to three days before inside a residence in the 4400 block of Via San Rafael, near Flamingo Road and Arville Street. Officers entered the residence and found the man dead from an apparent gunshot wound.

The preliminary investigation indicated the house is not occupied by any owner or renter, but is used by many different people.

Two to three days ago, the victim and several other people were at the residence when a verbal argument occurred, police said. At some point in the argument, a gunshot was heard and the victim was seen lying on the ground, according to police.

No suspect or suspects have been identified, but the motive may be narcotics related, police said.

This is the 115th homicide investigated by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department in 2015.

The identity of the victim will be released by the Clark County Coroner’s Office.
