A man is dead after an altercation Saturday afternoon.
Police responded around 4:15 p.m. in the 5100 block of Greene Lane, near Tropicana Avenue and Maryland Parkway, after reports of a fight.
A man was conscious and breathing with a laceration to the head. He was transported to Desert Springs Hospital where he later died. He was identified as 44-year-old David Lee Helmer of Las Vegas. His cause of death is pending.
Homicide detectives determined the man and another adult male were involved in a physical confrontation. During the course of the fight, the decedent suffered the head wound. The other man in the fight was detained at the scene, however, he was not arrested.
This incident remains under investigation and will be submitted to the Clark County District Attorney’s Office for review.
This is the 110th homicide investigated by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department in 2016.
