UPDATE OCT. 7: The Clark County Coroner has identified the victim as 31-year-old Calbert Welch. Welch's death was due to multiple gunshot wounds and ruled a homicide.
North Las Vegas Police Department officers responded to calls of a shooting near Aliante Parkway and the 215 Beltway at 8 p.m. tonight.
The shooting took place on Alcantara Lane near Aviary Park neighborhood.
Arriving officers located one victim who was suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
The victim, a Black male adult believed to be 31, was transported to University Medical Center where he later died from his injuries.
The preliminary investigation indicates the shooter left prior to police arrival.
It is unknown at this time what happened prior to the incident or what lead to the shooting. Detectives are on scene and working with the public to get information.
Police say this is not believed to be a random act of violence. At this time there is no information about the shooter.
“These terrible events hurt not only the family and friends of the victims but the community as a whole. This violence needs to stop. Anyone who thinks they can come into our community and be a monster will be brought to justice. I am asking for the community’s help to come forward with any information about these recent shootings.
