Nevada Department of Public Safety reviews May police chase, shooting

NEVADA (KTNV) — Henderson police released further details into a shooting that involved officers and Nevada Highway Patrol on May 31.

An internal review is underway with officials looking into the tactics used during the incident.

The original situation involved a woman who authorities say stole a car and sent them on a chase from Henderson to Las Vegas while pointing a gun at officers and shooting at highway patrol troopers.

The chase spanned three jurisdictions - Henderson Police Department, Nevada Highway Patrol and the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department – before 34-year-old Shanita Hearns was taken into custody near Tropicana Avenue and Decatur Boulevard.

Hearns was charged with attempted murder and two counts of assault on a protected person with a deadly weapon.

The May 31 incident was the third shooting that involved a Henderson officer, according to the department.
