UPDATE: Officer identified in shooting near North Las Vegas Boulevard

UPDATE:

NORTH LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — The officer who was involved in the shooting in the 1800 block of North Las Vegas Boulevard has been identified as Officer Marcos Gomez.

Officer Gomez is 33 years old and has been employed with LVMPD since 2021 as a part of the Tourist Safety Division, Downtown Area Command.

He has been placed on administrative leave and is awaiting the outcome of the investigation.

On Sunday, Dec. 1, the suspect in the shooting with Metro police has been arrested.

He will be booked at Clark County Detention Center for several felony charges.

No further details have been provided by Metro at this time.

The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department has identified the suspect in a shooting that occurred between a suspect and Metro on Friday night.

Metro located a vehicle that matched the description of the suspect's vehicle involved in a violent crime near Christy Lane and Bonanza Road at around 10:26 p.m. Friday.

The suspect has been identified as 54-year-old Jaime Mendoza.

Metro tried to stop the car, and Mendoza engaged in a high-speed pursuit
with police.

Police were able to identify the car once again near Las Vegas Boulevard and Owens Avenue.

The car was wrecked, and Mendoza proceeded to run from the police.

While running, Mendoza shot at police, and Metro Police shot back at the suspect and took cover.

The suspect fled on foot and is still searching for Mendoza.

No officers have been injured, according to police.

Mendoza is possibly injured and is considered armed and dangerous.

The North Las Vegas Police Department is assisting Metro.
